The curriculum examines contemporary Supreme Court precedent, including The Graham Standard and the 2025 ruling in Barnes v. Felix, along with their practical implications for officer decision-making. Participants will explore the complexities surrounding the Graham Standard and its effects on both Federal Civil Litigation and Criminal Statutes when officers face charges related to their use of force.

The program incorporates scientific research on human performance under stress, helping officers understand how their bodies and minds respond during critical incidents. Drawing from field expertise, instructors provide practical guidance on documenting use-of-force incidents in reports that withstand judicial scrutiny.

Course Topics Include:

  • Analysis of current officer use-of-force cases with video review and group discussion
  • Constitutional and case law principles, including Title 42 Section 1983 versus criminal statutes
  • Human performance science and stress response research
  • Body camera footage review and officer reporting procedures
