Course Overview

This specialized five-day expert-level program equips investigators with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to repair compromised digital evidence while preserving forensic integrity. Through practical, laboratory-based instruction, participants learn to identify hardware defects, execute controlled repairs on mobile devices and USB storage media, and restore device functionality to enable successful data extraction when conventional methods prove inadequate.

Core Competencies

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose and remediate damaged mobile device evidence using forensically sound methodologies
  • Restore operational capability to devices to facilitate successful data recovery
  • Execute controlled disassembly, repair, and reassembly procedures on mobile devices and USB flash drives
  • Apply thermal and soldering techniques appropriately without jeopardizing evidence integrity
  • Attain CERT-F certification by demonstrating competency through a practical examination

Practical Training Components

The course includes hands-on experience with mobile device troubleshooting and failure identification, connector and display replacement, thermal-based component restoration, precision micro-soldering, and USB flash drive repair and recovery procedures.

Optional Equipment Kits

Students may purchase optional training kits to continue practicing repair and chip-off methodologies beyond the classroom. These kits include precision soldering equipment, heat application tools, USB flash drive and data port repair components, and LCD screen and button replacement sets. Additional fees apply. Kits are optional and not required for course completion.

Ideal For

This course addresses situations where damaged, non-functional, or physically compromised devices prevent standard forensic extraction workflows from succeeding.

Prerequisites

Completion of the CCO + CCPA certification pathway is strongly recommended prior to enrolling in CERT-F to ensure foundational knowledge of standard forensic workflows and proper evidence handling procedures.
