LPVO Operator/Instructor Course
LPVO Operator School
This comprehensive 3-day course spans 24 hours of instruction and is tailored for patrol officers and SWAT personnel who respond to high-risk active incidents while operating carbines equipped with Low Power Variable Optics (LPVO). Participants will develop proficiency in engaging targets across the full spectrum of distances, from close quarters battle (CQB) ranges through extended distances up to 500 yards, contingent upon training location.
The curriculum emphasizes practical application of LPVO-equipped rifles, including instruction on navigating variable magnification settings, delivering accurate fire on designated targets, and leveraging optical magnification to identify potential threats that would otherwise remain obscured. Attendees will also gain knowledge in selecting appropriate optics and reticle configurations, understanding their capabilities and tactical applications.
Course Topics Include:
- Optic and reticle selection strategies
- Rifle configuration and setup
- Fundamental precision marksmanship techniques
- Zeroing procedures
- Introduction to ballistic calculation applications
- External, internal, and terminal ballistics
- Intermediate barrier effects and tactical workshop
- Improvised shooting positions
Required Equipment:
- Patrol rifle with minimum 3 magazines
- LPVO with true 1x power at minimum magnification
- Rifle sling
- Backup iron sights or red dot sight
- 200 rounds duty ammunition
- Minimum 1000 rounds training ammunition
- Bipod
- Soft body armor and plate carrier
- Duty belt, service pistol, holster (excluding Blackhawk Serpa models), and pistol magazines
- 100 rounds handgun ammunition
- Eye and hearing protection
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Knee pads (recommended)
- Additional patrol gear as needed
- Personal food and water
Enrollment is restricted to law enforcement and military personnel, with a maximum class size of 10 students.
