Overview
Courthouses and government buildings face ongoing threats of disruption and violence, making them particularly challenging environments to secure. These facilities serve critical functions within the justice system while accommodating judges, defendants, victims, families, attorneys, and county personnel—all of which contributes to an inherently high-risk setting.
Security incidents at courthouses have evolved from minor disturbances such as picketing to more severe incidents involving physical assaults and loss of life. Relying solely on past experience is insufficient for ensuring adequate preparedness. Security professionals must recognize that courthouse incidents are not a matter of possibility but inevitability, and proper training is essential.
Program Focus
This certification program prepares officers with the knowledge, abilities, and practical resources needed to identify threats, effectively respond to security emergencies, and reduce the impact of courthouse and courtroom security breaches. Participants will learn to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethical conduct, and legal compliance throughout their security responsibilities.
