Course Overview

During the opening moments of a crisis situation, critical decisions made by first responders can profoundly impact the resolution. Patrol officers, correctional personnel, school resource officers, dispatchers, and first-line supervisors frequently encounter dangerous and emotionally intense circumstances involving suicidal individuals, barricaded suspects, and hostage situations. While specialized crisis negotiation teams ultimately respond to these incidents, their deployment often takes considerable time, particularly in rural locations or during mass events. The initial responsibility for managing these scenes and stabilizing the situation typically rests with the first uniformed officer to arrive on scene.

This training program prepares first responders who arrive at the scene before specialized negotiators to effectively manage critical incidents and maintain scene stability until trained negotiators assume command.
