This four-hour course equips participants with practical strategies for managing confrontational situations in public safety environments. Attendees will develop the ability to recognize and address hostile behavior, negative attitudes, sarcasm, and underlying agendas while maintaining professional composure and preventing situations from spiraling into serious confrontations.
Course Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the physiological responses that occur when individuals become hostile or angry
- Apply communication techniques designed to de-escalate and defuse hostile encounters
- Employ methods to redirect thinking patterns as a de-escalation tool
- Understand cognitive changes that take place during hostile situations and how to effectively respond to them
- Intervene in volatile circumstances to prevent escalation into major incidents
Target Audience: This training is designed for professionals in corrections, dispatch, law enforcement, EMS, EMA, fire services, park rangers, and prosecutors/district attorneys.
