COURSE OVERVIEW
This two-day hands-on program equips newly assigned investigators and first responders with essential evidence-handling skills for the most prevalent crime scenes, including residential and commercial breaks. Participants will develop competency in processing evidence from burglaries, stolen or recovered vehicles, drug-related incidents, and assault cases. The course emphasizes fundamental latent print development techniques and teaches a methodical approach to documenting, preserving, processing, and collecting physical evidence at crime scenes.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 2 day (16 hour) HANDS ON course will enable the newly assigned investigator or 1st responding officer assigned to handle evidence at the most common crime scenes: housebreaks and commercial breaks. The officer will also gain the fundamental skills necessary to respond to stolen/recovered motor vehicles, drug crimes and assaults. The methods for developing latent prints on evidence are vast and plenty. But the concepts addressed in this course will help the investigator with the first steps and basic techniques in processing evidence from these types of scenes utilizing a systematic approach to document, preserve, process and collect items at the crime scene. Participants will be instructed in the use of the first and basic set of processes and will demonstrate their proficiency in the use of these materials to the satisfaction of the course instructor.
PREREQUISITE
This is the pre-requisite course to the secondary, Dust 'n Bust (which will cover the "vast and plenty" of latent print/DNA recovery that follows basic methods.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Each participant attending the course will receive a BEER kit. The cost of the training (including the entire "BEER" kit is $429.00), which for fiscal purposes can be allotted from either an agency training budget or equipment budget.
