Command Decisions: Navigating Employment Law Challenges in Policing

This one-day virtual training equips law enforcement commanders with essential knowledge for managing the intricate employment and labor law issues they encounter in their roles. Participants will explore critical topics including hiring practices, background investigation procedures, disability claim management, employee discipline procedures, and freedom of speech considerations—all vital areas where leaders must make legally compliant decisions that safeguard both their personnel and their organization.

The program is structured to provide law enforcement leaders at all command levels with practical tools and confidence when navigating employment law matters. Throughout the training, attendees will examine real-world scenarios, review relevant case law, and learn actionable strategies to support informed, legally sound decision-making in daily operations.

This course is intended for first-line and command-level supervisors, internal affairs investigators, risk management professionals, and executive leadership including chiefs, deputy chiefs, and policy makers.

The training takes place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in a virtual format. The schedule consists of two sessions: morning instruction from 10 AM to 1 PM EST and afternoon instruction from 2 PM to 5 PM EST. The cost is $295 per student.
