Trauma Informed Policing

The Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council's Field Services Training Division is offering a single-day course in trauma-informed policing on Monday, May 3, 2027, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Connecticut Police Academy located at 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden, Connecticut 06450. Deputy Chief (Retired) James Harris and instructors from J. Harris Academy of Police Training will lead this program.

This course is designed to introduce participants to the trauma-informed policing (TIP) framework and its practical applications in law enforcement. The curriculum covers foundational concepts of trauma and how it manifests, examines the effects of trauma on both emergency responders and the public they serve, explores trauma intervention techniques, delves into the principles underlying trauma-informed approaches, addresses trauma-informed interviewing methods, and addresses specialized scenarios while remaining current in the field.

This course carries no tuition cost. Participants may purchase lunch at nearby dining establishments. The uniform dress code specified in POST In-Service training General Notice 23-02 is mandatory for all attendees.

Upon successful completion, participants earn six (6) Review Training Credit hours in the designated area listed below.
