Basic Instructor Development (BID/MOI)

Course Overview: The Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council's Field Services Training Division is conducting a comprehensive five-day instructor development program designed to prepare law enforcement professionals for POST instructor certification. This "methods of instruction" approved course qualifies graduates to pursue POST instructor credentials.

Schedule and Location: The course runs from Monday, November 16, 2026, through Friday, November 20, 2026, at the Connecticut Police Academy, 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden, Connecticut 06450. Daily sessions operate from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, with Friday sessions concluding at 12:00 PM. Instructors Thomas Wardowski and Christopher DiFalco from the Milford and Ridgefield Police Departments, respectively, will lead the training.

Cost: This course carries no tuition cost to attendees.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of three years of satisfactory law enforcement experience as a prerequisite. Candidates already holding a provisional law enforcement instructor certificate receive priority consideration for enrollment due to limited course availability.

Course Expectations: Participants should arrive prepared with a selected training topic and be ready to develop a comprehensive lesson plan covering that subject. The program incorporates both oral and written components, culminating in a ten-minute videotaped presentation to demonstrate instructional competency. Successful course completion requires finishing all assignments, homework, and program components within the designated timeframe. Punctuality is expected for all class sessions and assignments.

Technical Requirements: Students must bring their own laptop computer, as the course utilizes technology throughout instruction.

Registration Details: The class accommodates a maximum of thirty-five participants. Registration must be completed through the Acadis portal no later than Monday, October 26, 2026. Dress Code and Meals: The uniform dress code specified in POST General Notice 23-02 applies to all in-service training. Lunch arrangements are the responsibility of participants, with local restaurant options available.
