Cannabis Impairment Detection – Green Lab

The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, in collaboration with the University of Connecticut and the Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office, is conducting this specialized training seminar on October 16, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Connecticut Police Academy located at 285 Preston Avenue in Meriden, 06450.

This course combines both wet lab (alcohol) and green lab (cannabis) exercises to prepare law enforcement personnel to recognize and assess impairment in drivers who have consumed THC and/or alcohol before operating a vehicle. The curriculum covers cannabis fundamentals including composition, cultural context, retail distribution models, and consumption methods, followed by an examination of cannabis legal status covering both historical background and current Connecticut statutes. Participants will also learn toxicology principles and gain insight into the complexities surrounding THC detection and laboratory testing protocols. The training concludes with practical wet and green lab exercises and a question-and-answer session with laboratory professionals.

This course carries no tuition. Participants may purchase lunch at nearby dining establishments. The uniform dress code specified in POST In-Service training General Notice 23-02 is mandatory, and training supervisors must ensure assigned personnel are informed of this requirement.

Candidates must have successfully completed both a NHTSA/IACP-approved Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) training and ARIDE training before attending.
