Criminal Investigation

Course Overview:

This two-day seminar provides law enforcement personnel with comprehensive instruction on managing crime scenes from initial discovery through evidence recovery. Participants will develop a thorough understanding of crime scene identification, protection protocols, and evidence management procedures. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience including interaction with a realistic mock crime scene and role-playing scenarios that simulate situations investigators encounter in the field.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion, officers will have acquired practical competencies in multiple investigative areas: conducting effective interviews, processing latent fingerprints at crime scenes, recovering and documenting evidence, composing comprehensive investigative reports, delivering courtroom testimony, and addressing constitutional considerations relevant to investigations.

Course Format:

Instruction is delivered through a combination of lecture and practical application. Educational materials include PowerPoint presentations, instructional videos, engagement with a mock crime scene, and interaction with trained role players. Each participant receives a course manual containing all PowerPoint slides and supplementary handout materials.

Target Audience:

This course is designed for patrol officers, detectives and investigators, and supervisory personnel.

Schedule & Location:

The seminar meets over two consecutive days: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, through Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. Training takes place at the Connecticut Police Academy, located at 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden, Connecticut 06450. The course instructor is Lieutenant Joseph Pangaro (Retired) of Pangaro Training and Management.

Registration & Logistics:

Class enrollment is limited to forty (40) participants. Registration must be completed through the Acadis portal by Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Questions regarding registration should be directed to the Field Services Training Division at 203-427-2625. The tuition cost for this course is $200. Participants are responsible for arranging their own lunch at nearby restaurants. The POST In-Service training uniform dress code (General Notice 23-02) is in effect for all attendees.
