Management of the K-9 Unit

This comprehensive program offers law enforcement professionals with essential knowledge about establishing, managing, and optimizing canine units within police departments. Participants will gain insight into the expectations and operational capabilities of police service K-9s, along with practical strategies for building and maintaining effective canine teams.

The curriculum covers the complete lifecycle of K-9 unit management, including structural design, selection processes, and comprehensive training methodologies. Participants will explore specialized leadership approaches that emphasize team development and organizational cohesion. The course also addresses critical operational aspects such as handler and canine care protocols, administrative record-keeping systems, and decision-making processes related to retirement and replacement of K-9 assets.

Additional focus areas include budget administration specific to K-9 operations, current legal considerations, and policy development tailored to canine units.

Program Details

Duration: 32 hours

Target Audience: Sworn and non-sworn law enforcement personnel, including both experienced and newly appointed K-9 unit supervisors

Daily Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Course Fee: $825.00

Preparation: Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer for collaborative activities and group exercises

Important Note: Working K-9s are not permitted to attend this training course
