This thorough educational program is tailored for newly appointed internal affairs officers and supervisors, seasoned investigators seeking professional development, civilian investigators in this field, and administrative or management personnel overseeing internal affairs operations. The curriculum accommodates the distinct needs and operational structures of small, medium, and large law enforcement and public safety organizations.

Participants will develop competency in investigative methodologies and gain comprehensive understanding of legal frameworks essential for conducting internal affairs investigations. The program covers administrative inquiries, specialized investigations into officer conduct, officer-involved shootings, and in-custody death cases.

The curriculum takes participants through each phase of professional and impartial internal affairs investigations. Instruction covers administrative and criminal complaint investigations, as well as specialized inquiries into sexual harassment allegations and hostile workplace concerns. Participants will receive detailed instruction on current judicial precedents and industry-standard protocols for complaint procedures, employee rights protections, social media governance, applicable administrative regulations, and media relations procedures. The course includes practical interview preparation and execution techniques designed for complainants, witnesses, and accused personnel.

Target Audience

This program is designed for personnel engaged in administrative investigations and internal affairs work, professional standards units, law enforcement and public safety leadership, and human resources or governmental managers with oversight responsibilities for law enforcement or public safety personnel. The course is restricted to sworn and non-sworn law enforcement professionals.
