Management of the K-9 Unit

This comprehensive 32-hour training program offers law enforcement supervisors essential knowledge and practical skills for managing canine units within police departments. The course is designed for both experienced supervisors and those newly appointed to K-9 unit leadership roles.

Participants will gain valuable insights into police service K-9 expectations, capabilities, and operational structure. The curriculum covers selecting and training K-9 teams, with particular emphasis on innovative leadership approaches and team development exercises. Attendees will explore the complete lifecycle of police service dogs, including proper care protocols, maintenance standards, and considerations for retirement and replacement decisions.

Additional focus areas include specialized budgetary management, records administration specific to K-9 units, and current legal updates with policy development guidance relevant to canine operations. The course examines the evolution of police service K-9 programs and their expanding capabilities in law enforcement.
