IAI Approval: This course is approved for continuing education credits through the International Association of Identification (IAI), including 24 hours for the Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Certification Board and Crime Scene Certification Board, and 20 hours for the Latent Print Certification Board.

Course Overview

This three-day intensive workshop, developed through a partnership between Gap Science and J13 Forensics, provides forensic professionals and students with practical, hands-on training in detecting, enhancing, and investigating bloodstain evidence using modern tools and methodologies. Participants will develop the expertise and confidence needed to handle real-world casework effectively.

Course Content

Throughout this workshop, attendees will:

  • Explore the fundamentals of blood as forensic evidence, including blood physiology and its investigative significance
  • Develop proficiency with advanced detection techniques, including hands-on practice using the Foster+Freeman Crime-lite AUTO to locate and document bloodstains across multiple surfaces
  • Conduct presumptive and confirmatory testing using Luminol, Bluestar, Phenolphthalein, and OBTI test kits
  • Master bloodstain enhancement methods for latent prints, learning fixative selection and application techniques
  • Utilize the Crime-lite AUTO to visualize enhanced prints with reagents including Amido Black, Leucocrystal Violet, Acid Yellow 7, Acid Violet 17, Hungarian Red, and Coomassie Blue
  • Establish optimal processing sequences for bloody evidence to preserve and maximize all investigative leads
