Special Event Planning and Management

This comprehensive course equips participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to successfully organize, coordinate, and execute special events. By mastering event planning techniques, participants can enhance venue safety and security, minimize organizational liability, and effectively manage the flow of both pedestrians and vehicles.

The program covers essential Incident Command System (ICS) frameworks that have proven effective for managing events of varying sizes and complexity. Participants will study current best practices and learn from authentic case studies and real-world scenarios. Interactive group exercises will require attendees to plan and evaluate a designated event, with results presented to and critiqued by the full class.

Participants will discover how to locate and utilize planning resources, references, and supporting materials, as well as understand the critical role that internal and external partnerships play in event success. Special attention will be given to distinguishing between pre-planned/fixed events and spontaneous/dynamic events, with emphasis placed on how training and practical experience directly influence planning effectiveness.

The course also addresses documentation and evaluation procedures, including the preparation of After Action Reports that capture lessons learned, identify areas of achievement, document obstacles encountered, and suggest enhancements for subsequent events. Coverage of applicable accreditation standards rounds out the training.
