Course Description
This is an advanced negotiation program designed for law enforcement crisis and hostage negotiators who have successfully completed a 40-hour basic certification course.
The first day focuses on foundational negotiation techniques, including active listening and more advanced strategies for influence and persuasion. Real-world case examples drawn from the instructor's professional background will illustrate these principles in action.
The second day delves into advanced topics related to negotiating with individuals experiencing various psychiatric conditions, with particular emphasis on those with personality disorders and limited empathy. A detailed case study from a 15-hour hostage standoff that the instructor has personally managed will serve as a practical example throughout this section.
The third day examines how Incident Command, SWAT teams, and negotiators can improve coordination and communication with one another. Additional topics include text-based negotiations, kidnapping scenarios, and other specialized negotiation situations as time permits.
Prerequisites: Participants must have already completed a 40-hour basic hostage negotiation certification course before enrolling in this advanced program.
