Mobile Device Investigations

This comprehensive three-day training program equips criminal justice professionals with essential knowledge and practical skills for investigating cases involving cellular devices and mobile technology. Participants will explore contemporary methodologies, best practices, and investigative approaches applicable across a wide range of criminal investigations.

Course Content Overview

The curriculum covers critical topics including strategies for engaging with cellular network providers, drafting and executing technology-focused search warrants, interpreting cellular provider call detail records, correlating digital evidence to investigative objectives, and developing persuasive case presentation strategies. Attendees will also examine modern communication systems, geolocation techniques, real-time device tracking, mobile forensics fundamentals, internet-based applications, social media investigations, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and advanced analytical tools used in digital investigations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

• Identify effective methods to collect evidence directly from cellular network carriers
• Evaluate and implement procedures for obtaining mobile device search warrants during active investigations
• Retrieve and analyze data from diverse cellular device types
• Formulate investigative strategies utilizing cellular data and communications records
• Properly archive and organize digital evidence for prosecution and courtroom presentation

Instructor

Andrew Vallee, Senior Special Agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Cellular Analysis Survey Team, will facilitate this training. With more than two decades of law enforcement experience beginning in 2000, Agent Vallee holds certification as a law enforcement instructor since 2004 and brings specialized expertise in electronic surveillance, cellular network systems, radio frequency analysis, and communications data interpretation. He has qualified as an expert witness in judicial proceedings at local, state, and federal levels throughout the United States and has provided expert testimony before the Tennessee General Assembly. As an Instructor Trainer and Course Developer with the National Domestic Communications Assistance Center, he has taught numerous specialized courses through both the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the National Criminal Justice Training Center since 2012.

Eligibility and Access

This training is restricted to law enforcement professionals, prosecution personnel, and related court system officials only. Participants must hold current criminal justice professional credentials to enroll.

Registration and Fees

The $450.00 registration fee covers 24 hours of instruction, course materials, and instructional resources. Attendees are responsible for arranging and paying for their own meals, transportation, and lodging. Several accommodations are available in the Firestone and Longmont area, including the Best Western Firestone Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn Longmont, and Holiday Inn Express and Suites Firestone - Longmont.
