Video Motion Analysis in Crash Investigation

This intensive five-day course is tailored for crash investigators and reconstructionists seeking to enhance their analytical expertise through video-based evidence examination. Participants will develop proficiency in extracting and evaluating vehicle velocity information from video recordings, making this training valuable for both law enforcement agencies and private sector reconstruction professionals.

Course Overview

The program begins with a review of fundamental concepts from IPTM's At-Scene and Advanced Crash Investigation courses before progressing to specialized training in video metadata extraction, scene documentation, and motion analysis technology. Through a combination of structured instruction, practical field activities, and real-world case examples, students will master the application of Constant, Uniform, and Average Time and Speed equations to determine vehicle speeds from video evidence. The course concludes with a comprehensive assessment and final examination.

Course Requirements

Duration: 40 hours | Class Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Prerequisite: Completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or equivalent training is mandatory.

Materials to Bring: Bring a laptop computer capable of installing and running Kinovea software, and a scientific calculator with functions including square root, trigonometric operations, and parentheses capability.

Professional Credentials

Participants who successfully complete this course will earn 40 ACTAR continuing education units.
