At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation
Course Overview
This is the first course in a three-course series designed to prepare traffic crash investigators with essential competencies for conducting comprehensive investigations at crash scenes and preparing findings for legal proceedings. Participants will master the techniques necessary to accurately measure, diagram, and photograph evidence, as well as apply mathematical and physics principles to reconstruct events before, during, and after a collision.
Course Content
The curriculum covers a range of critical topics including:
- Physical evidence collection from roadways and vehicles
- Human factors and occupant kinematics
- Mathematical principles and equations specific to crash analysis
- Skid mark analysis and speed calculations
- Crash scene documentation through photography
- Traffic templates and measurement techniques
- Scale diagramming procedures
- Driver and witness interview protocols
- Case development and courtroom preparation

For Florida law enforcement officers, successful completion of this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit under the FDLE Traffic Homicide Investigation course designation. Additionally, this course is not eligible for certificate discounts.
