Police Applicant Background Investigation

This comprehensive 40-hour course equips participants with the essential knowledge and competencies required to execute objective, thorough, and legally compliant applicant background investigations that uphold your agency's professional standards.

The training covers relevant Federal and State statutes, contemporary case law, Supreme Court rulings, and administrative regulations governing personnel selection and employment procedures. Participants will explore Federal and State employment equity laws, public records requirements, EEOC guidelines, and ADA legislation, with emphasis on how these requirements intersect with the background investigation and applicant selection processes.

Throughout the course, you will discover which private and governmental internet research tools yield the most valuable investigative data, understand what to anticipate from psychological evaluations, master appropriate drug screening protocols, and develop proficiency in interviewing applicants, references, former employers, acquaintances, and community members.
