This advanced course equips participants with contemporary methodologies and techniques for investigating pedestrian and bicycle traffic collisions. Building on foundational concepts covered in IPTM's Pedestrian/Bicycle Crash Investigation - Level I, this program emphasizes the analytical phase of crash investigations, with particular attention to incidents occurring at night or under reduced visibility conditions.
Participants will master a methodical framework for analyzing these complex crashes, gaining the knowledge and analytical tools needed to assess and communicate collision avoidance factors. The course introduces mathematical principles and empirical data essential for determining vehicle and pedestrian/cyclist velocities at the moment of impact.
Hands-on pedestrian visibility assessments are conducted throughout the training to illuminate visibility challenges inherent in pedestrian and cyclist collision scenarios. Students complete practical pedestrian rate-of-movement testing exercises to supplement the velocity analysis materials presented in lectures.

This course is designed for law enforcement personnel, private traffic crash investigators, claims adjusters, engineers, attorneys, safety professionals, military investigative specialists, animators, and graphic designers engaged in crash reconstruction work.
Prerequisites
Participants must have successfully completed IPTM's Pedestrian/Bicycle Crash Investigation - Level I course or an equivalent program. Students without strong mathematics and physics backgrounds are strongly encouraged to complete IPTM's 16-hour Re-Introduction to Math and Physics (Online) course prior to enrollment.
Professional Certification
This course qualifies for 40 ACTAR Continuing Education Units.
Recommended Materials
Students are encouraged to bring A Practical Guide for the Investigation and Reconstruction of Pedestrian and Bicycle Collisions (2024) by Ken Harmon to class, though this text is not required.
