At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation

Course Overview

This foundational course is the first in a three-course series designed to prepare participants with essential competencies for conducting comprehensive traffic crash investigations and documenting findings suitable for courtroom use. Participants will master the procedural techniques for measuring, creating scale diagrams, and capturing photographs to preserve physical evidence and critical information accessible only at the scene. The curriculum covers fundamental applications of mathematics, physics, and engineering principles specific to crash investigation work, including appropriate mathematical formulas for various collision types. Attendees will develop analytical skills to reconstruct the sequence of events surrounding a collision from before impact through post-collision movement.

Florida law enforcement officers should be aware that completion of this course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit under the FDLE "Traffic Homicide Investigation" designation.
