Investigation of Motorcycle Crashes - Level II
This advanced course expands upon foundational motorcycle crash investigation knowledge, diving deeper into the dynamics and operational principles that govern motorcycles and their riders. Participants will learn sophisticated mathematical formulas and analytical techniques recognized and accepted in professional case analysis.
The program incorporates both collaborative and individual learning components. A group project guides participants through methods for calculating maximum tire lean angles and understanding contact patch migration. Individual projects allow participants to apply learned equations and analytical approaches to practical, real-world crash investigation scenarios.

- Circular motion principles
- Speed-in-gear analysis
- Wheelbase reduction information
- Braking dynamics with weight transfer
- Stoppies and wheelies analysis
- Motorcycle tire forces and behavior

- Custom and specialty motorcycle crash investigation
- Rotational crash analysis
A comprehensive manual containing applicable reference information and test data will be provided to support ongoing investigation work.

Prerequisites: Participants must have successfully completed IPTM's At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation, Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation, and Investigation of Motorcycle Crashes (completed after 2000), or equivalent courses.
Required Materials: Scientific calculator, traffic template or engineering scale, and protractor
Recommended Materials: Flash drive with 2GB or greater capacity
Professional Credit: This course qualifies for 40 ACTAR Continuing Education Units.
