Video Motion Analysis in Crash Investigation

This intensive five-day course is tailored for crash investigators and reconstructionists who seek to enhance their investigative proficiency through evidence-based analysis techniques. Participants will develop expertise in extracting and analyzing vehicle speed data from video recordings, making this training valuable for professionals in both law enforcement agencies and private reconstruction firms.

The curriculum builds upon foundational knowledge from IPTM's At-Scene and Advanced Crash Investigation courses, progressing into specialized training on video metadata examination, scene diagramming methodologies, and motion analysis software applications. Students engage in guided instruction, practical field exercises, and analysis of real-world case studies to master the calculation of vehicle speeds utilizing Constant, Uniform, and Average Time and Speed equations. The program concludes with a comprehensive assessment and final examination to confirm competency in the subject matter.

Prerequisites

Completion of IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course or an equivalent program is required for enrollment.

• Laptop with capability to install and operate Kinovea software
• Scientific calculator featuring square root, trigonometric, and parenthetical function capabilities

Professional Recognition

Successful completion of this course qualifies participants for 40 continuing education units (CEUs) through ACTAR.
