Overview:
This foundational course is the first offering in a comprehensive three-course series designed to develop competency in traffic crash investigation. Participants will acquire the essential knowledge and techniques needed to perform comprehensive crash scene investigations and effectively present findings in legal proceedings.
Course Content:
The curriculum emphasizes proper methodologies for documenting crash scenes through measurement, scale diagram creation, and photographic documentation to preserve physical evidence and critical scene information. Participants will study fundamental concepts from mathematics, physics, and engineering disciplines as applied to crash analysis, master the appropriate mathematical formulas for various collision scenarios, and develop analytical skills to reconstruct the sequence of events before, during, and after a collision.

Note: Florida law enforcement officers should be aware that this course does not meet the qualifications for FDLE Salary Incentive Credit for the Traffic Homicide Investigation certification. This course is not eligible for certificate discounts.
Series Information: This is the first course in a three-part sequence. Graduates may continue with Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation (second course) and Traffic Crash Reconstruction (third course, also available online).
