This comprehensive training program is intended for active law enforcement and traffic crash investigation professionals who need to develop proficiency in documenting crash scenes through digital photography. Participants will master the operation of their agency-issued camera, exploring at least three shooting modes beyond the standard automatic setting, with instruction delivered through classroom lectures, live demonstrations, and practical field exercises.
A significant emphasis is placed on comprehensive scene documentation across varying lighting conditions. Two of the five course days are dedicated exclusively to nighttime photography, covering flash techniques and available light strategies. Participants will spend one full day at a salvage yard to apply classroom skills to realistic post-crash vehicle inspections similar to those conducted at impound facilities. The program also covers macro photography methods for capturing detailed evidence, including specialized lamp documentation techniques.
Upon completing this course, participants will possess a working command of photographic techniques for recording vehicles, damage patterns, and related evidence using departmentally supplied digital cameras. Successful completion requires full attendance throughout all scheduled sessions, submission of all assigned projects, and satisfactory instructor evaluation.
