Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation - Level II

This advanced course represents the second level in IPTM's commercial vehicle crash investigation training series. It builds upon the foundation established in the Level I course, providing participants with comprehensive knowledge of commercial motor vehicle systems, dynamics, and reconstruction methodologies.

Course Content and Topics:

The program covers an in-depth examination of air brake systems found on truck-tractors and trailers, including practical testing to measure brake chamber pressure. Participants engage in hands-on field inspections where actual brake testing is performed on commercial vehicles.

Instruction includes the development of free-body diagrams and equilibrium equations for determining axle weight distribution patterns. The course addresses both quasi-static and dynamic rollover characteristics, suspension spring rate analysis, and the calculation of maximum off-tracking distances for various vehicle configurations.

Additional topics encompass the analysis of rotational motion in commercial vehicle crashes, transmission types used in modern commercial motor vehicles, and methods for determining vehicle speed based on gear position at the time of incident. Participants also learn to interpret hydraulic brake systems and fluid pressure dynamics specific to commercial applications.

Program Details:

This is a 40-hour course offered in an in-person classroom and field setting format. Class sessions run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The course fee is $895.00. Upon completion, participants are eligible to earn 40 ACTAR Continuing Education Units.

Prerequisites:

Enrollment requires successful completion of both IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course and the Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation - Level I course.

Required Materials:

Participants must bring a scientific calculator and either a traffic template or engineer ruler to all sessions.

This course is designed for law enforcement officers, private sector traffic crash investigators, insurance claims adjusters, forensic engineers, attorneys, safety officers, military investigative personnel, and animation or graphic design professionals working in crash reconstruction.
