Course Overview

This comprehensive 20-hour training program has been registered with the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training for mandatory continuing education credit. Participants will develop expertise in recognizing advanced concealment techniques used by smugglers and criminal organizations to hide contraband, weapons, and currency within vehicles and other locations.

Schedule Note: The first two days run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time, with the final day running from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM local time.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

• Analyze current smuggling patterns and emerging trends in contraband trafficking
• Comprehend the expansion of Mexican Cartel operations and their implications for law enforcement
• Differentiate between lawful traffic stops and various law enforcement encounter types, including consensual interactions
• Execute safe traffic stops and escalate them appropriately into criminal interdiction arrests
• Employ effective questioning strategies and concealed interview techniques during encounters
• Request consent in accordance with legal requirements
• Deploy K-9 units appropriately and understand applicable case law
• Conduct comprehensive vehicle searches using proper procedures
• Recognize indicators of criminal activity
• Apply search and seizure law including search incident to arrest, probable cause, and consent-based techniques
• Identify hidden contraband within sophisticated compartments
• Properly handle cellular phones and personal items as evidence
• Take appropriate action following discovery of criminal activity or contraband
• Utilize asset forfeiture procedures for currency seizure
• Identify and safely handle various illicit substances including Fentanyl, Tranq, PCP, Flakka, and other controlled drugs
• Understand the connection between drug trafficking and terrorist networks
• Enhance officer safety awareness throughout interdiction operations
