In 1953 under Chief William Right, twelve police officers were hired to form the first Lincoln Police Department.

In 1964 The Lincoln Police department was relocated to 100 Old River Road. It still resides at that address and shares property with the Lincoln Town Hall and Administrative Offices.

Currently, the Lincoln Police Department has 36 officers assigned throughout the police department. This includes 17 patrolmen,
5 Sergeants, 4 Lieutenants, 4 Detectives, 2 School Resource Officers, a Traffic Safety Officer, 2 Captains, and the Chief of Police.

The Lincoln Police Department has 10 marked patrol cars for the department. We also have a Traffic Safety SUV and several marked Detail Units.  The Lincoln Police Department keeps current with nationwide law enforcement trends by allowing our officers to display visible tattoos and by providing both a formal uniform and a practical patrol uniform with outer carriers.

The Department may be larger now and uses newer and more scientific methods in fighting and solving crimes, but the men and women of the Lincoln Police Department are still dedicated to the same goal as the first 12 officers were in 1953; still providing the best police services possible to the citizens of Lincoln.

Whether it's on the road or in the schools, the men and women of the Lincoln Police Department serve with honor while striving to work in partnership with the community to fulfill the Department's vision of Community-Oriented Policing.

The Lincoln Police Department is devoted to its three core values- Service, Integrity, and Justice. Every sworn Officer proudly wears these words on our badges and uniforms. These are symbolic shields used to identify who we are and whom we protect. The department is comprised of dedicated law enforcement professionals who come from a diverse background. Together, they share a belief that it is an honor to serve, and a duty to protect.

Service- Selfless service is a crucial aspect of police work. We place the welfare and safety of our community as one of our highest priorities and consider it an honor to do so.

Integrity- As law Enforcement Officers, we understand that we must maintain the public’s trust. We ensure transparency and hold ourselves to the highest ethical standard. Integrity is an essential value for serving the public.

Justice- Justice is one of the most important moral concepts. All citizens are rightly entitled to this most basic liberty. The Lincoln Police understand the importance of enforcing the law while being fair in its application. Our Officers are always here to assist, and to enforce the rule of law.

                                                                      Our Community

Lincoln is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 22,499 at the 2021 census. Lincoln is located in northeastern Rhode Island, north of Providence. Lincoln is part of the Providence metropolitan statistical area and the Greater Boston combined statistical area. Amica Insurance Headquarters and Bally's Twin River Casino add to the overall daily commuter population.  

Lincoln was settled in the 17th century as part of the Louisquisset grant, and several colonial stone-enders still exist in the town. Lincoln Woods State Park is located within the town.

Limestone quarrying has occurred there since colonial times at the village of Lime Rock. Lincoln was a part of the town of Smithfield until 1871, when it was split off and named in honor of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln became an important mill town in the late 19th century, with many textile factories running along the Blackstone River. Lincoln's villages include Manville, Albion, Lime Rock, Lonsdale, Fairlawn, Quinnville, and Saylesville.

Lincoln is in the lower Blackstone Valley of Rhode Island and in the John H. Chafee, Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, New England's historic National Park area.
