About Us

The Elizabethtown Police Department has been serving the Elizabethtown Borough community since 1911 and is an accredited law enforcement agency through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC).

The Elizabethtown Police Department is a progressive, well-trained, and well-equipped civil service agency that has been serving the Elizabethtown community since 1911.  Elizabethtown Borough has a population of approximately 12,000 residents and includes the Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown Area High and Middle School Campus, and two elementary schools.  The Department currently employs 18 full time police officers and 2 administrative civilian personnel.  Officers include the Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Corporals, Detectives, School Resource Officer, and Patrol Officers.  We are a community-oriented policing agency, with officers trained in multiple disciplines including, but not limited to, bicycle patrol, forensics, DUI enforcement, and traffic safety.  Department officers participate in a number of community-based programs and we interact with our neighborhood partners on a daily basis.  EPD is moving quickly into the future of 21st Century Policing, using innovative digital resources and policing strategies in an effort to better serve our community.  Department officers are assigned to various county task forces and teams including, Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit, Lancaster County Forensics Team, and a Regional Crash Investigative Team.  The police station also serves as a regional booking center for the fingerprinting and photographing of criminal suspects.  This regional facility is utilized by three other police departments.  The department is dispatched through Lancaster County-Wide Communications (LCWC).

The Elizabethtown Police Department is an approved education and training facility by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  This certification allows qualifying veterans to receive their GI Bill Education Benefits as they complete their apprenticeship and on-the-job training during the first year of their employment with the police department.  The training program meets the requirements of the CFR 21.4262 (OJT).
