POLICE DEPARTMENT

SPONSORED POLICE CADET (BASIC RECRUIT/CORRECTIONS CROSSOVER)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum age of 20 years old by start of academy program
- High school diploma / GED
- Optional - corrections certified with interest in completing crossover into law enforcement program
- Be able to effectively communicate information orally and written.
- Excellent physical and mental condition, successfully passing physical examination and psychological examination.
- Must reside in one of the following Florida counties to be considered for this position:
- Lake County
- Sumter County
- Marion County
- Citrus County
- Hernando County
About This Position
- Full sponsorship for the police academy - all tuition and fees paid for by the agency
- We are considering applicants for the basic law enforcement recruit program and the corrections crossover program
- Hired as a City of Wildwood Employee at the start of the academy program - you will be paid $15 an hour throughout the duration of the academy program
- Upon successful completion of the police academy and State Law Enforcement Certification exam, you will begin the Field Training Program with our agency
- Starting salary upon finishing the program will be $51,000 a year
Testing Requirements:
- Physical Abilities Test - basic agility course *must finish course within 6 minutes 4 seconds*
- Written Exam - basic math and reading comprehension test - *must pass exam with a minimum grade of 70%*
- Oral Board Interview - interview with selected panel of command staff
- Written Personal Statement - short essay explaining your upbringing, values, and why you should be considered for the sponsorship
