GENERAL DUTIES
This is a highly responsible role in the Town of East Lyme conducting specific police work in protecting life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances in a diligent, dependable, honest, and competent manner. Patrol Officers perform work often under emergency situations. The position requires independent judgment, discretion, initiative, maturity, observation, and communication skills.
SALARY
$65,728 - $69,680 to start

The East Lyme Police Department is comprised of 30 sworn full time police officers and 1 part time police officer. We take pride in providing exceptional police service to the community that we serve. East Lyme is a town of approximately 19,000 residents in about 42 square miles, comprised the villages of Niantic (a shoreline community) and Flanders. The East Lyme Police Department has much to offer those interested in a law enforcement career. The department maintains a K-9 unit, a marine patrol, a detective division, bike and ATV patrol, and much more.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED required. College Degree or military service preferred
- Previous public safety work experience preferred
- Must meet and maintain all examination requirements prior to and during employment
- Possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be of good character and high moral standards
- You must be a citizen of the United States
HIRING PROCESS
The selection process will include, at minimum, a detailed review of your application packet, and the successful completion of the Department’s selection process which includes but may not be limited to the following:
- Passing score on the LEC Written Examination
- Physical Agility Testing
- Oral Board Examination
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Detailed Background Investigation
- Medical Exam & Drug screening
- Chief's and Police Commission interviews
