About the Toms River Police Department

Toms River Banner

Welcome to the Toms River Police Department. The 147 sworn men and women of this agency take pride in serving over 95,000 residents as well as the countless visitors who enjoy our waterfront community. The township is spread over 40 square miles and offers opportunities for a diverse population to enjoy preserved open space, beaches, parks, shopping, and restaurants. Toms River is also home to Community Medical Center, Ocean County College, a newly constructed VA Clinic, and a regional school system that serves 19,000 students.

The Toms River Police Department works closely with the Toms River Regional Schools and our private sector partners to ensure the highest quality of life possible for our residents and visitors. Reduction of crime and traffic crashes through targeted enforcement and community policing is a priority.

The Agency is led by Chief Guy E. Maire who oversees the three bureaus of the department.  The Operations Bureau, which contains the Patrol Division, constitutes a majority of our force, and is the most visible face of the Agency.  The department also staffs a Criminal Investigation Bureau which includes a proactive Special Enforcement Unit whose primary mission is to combat the illicit drug trade.  The Administration Bureau consists of the Records Division, Bookkeeping, a Municipal Holding Facility, Police Garage, and the Office of Professional Standards, which includes Internal Affairs, Recruiting, Training, and Accreditation.

The Toms River Police Department received Accreditation through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) and is currently working towards Re-Accreditation.  Accredited status represents a significant professional achievement and acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.
