The Portsmouth Police Department is currently staffed with 38 sworn officers.  The Department staffing also includes one Prudence Island Public Safety Officer, one Animal Control Officer, one Records Clerk, two School Resource Officer’s assigned to the High School and the Middle School and a Police Harbormaster. Our officers work diligently in protecting our residents and visitors, as Portsmouth is regarded as one of the safest communities in the state. We value our commitment to working in partnership with the community and encourage you to contact our agency if you need any information or assistance.

The Portsmouth Police Department provides 24 hour patrol service and we are committed to serving the Portsmouth community and providing professional police services.
