Department Overview

The Peterborough Police Department strives to serve its community by instituting the core values of Professionalism, Expertise and Dedication. PPD is comprised a Patrol Division, Detective Division and includes both a K9 Officer and School Recourse Officer. PPD is also an integral part of the Monadnock Regional Special Response Team.

The mission of the Peterborough Police Department is to serve the community, to fairly and impartially enforce the law, to protect life, and to safeguard property.

To this end, the resources of the department will be organized, maintained, and deployed in a manner consistent with this mission.

In recognizing the value of our citizens and their property, the Department will strive to instill public confidence by maintaining a high degree of professionalism, dedication, and expertise in the delivery of law enforcement services.

The Peterborough Police Department proudly serves the town and people of Peterborough and Sharon NH. Here are some fun facts:

The population of Peterborough is 6,418 (according to the 2020 census. It is located along the Contoocoock River at the junction of NH Rt 101 and 202.
Peterborough is home to the first tax-supported free public Library.
Peterborough is also home to NH’s first state park, Miller State Park.
The Moses Cheney house in town served as a stop on the Underground Railroad in the mid -19th century.
Contoocook Valley Regional High School serves approximately 700 students from Peterborough and surrounding towns
