WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

GLOUCESTER COUNTY

The mission of the Washington Township Police Department is to preserve and improve residents’ quality of life, and to work in partnership identifying and effectively responding to the diverse and ever-changing social needs of the community. We value, respect, defend and protect citizens without prejudice or favoritism and are committed to this end through leadership, supervisory direction, training and discipline.

The success of the Division of Police in the performance of its duties is assured largely by the degree of support and cooperation it receives from the people of the community which it serves. It is paramount that we secure the confidence, respect, and approbation of the public. The cultivation of such  desirable attitudes is dependent upon proper performance of duty by all the members of the Division of Police.

A professional responsibility no less grave than that of other administrators of the law is imposed upon members of the department. Professional policing is gaining general recognition, but it can win universal acclaim and permanent status only if the actions of the police are reflected in intelligent, sincere, efficient, and courteous service.

The police profession must embody the highest attributes of every other profession. Not private profit, nor personal reward, but the quality of service to the community is the hallmark of the professional police officer.
