ABOUT US
Established in 1890, the Madison Police Department is a community-oriented organization that provides law enforcement service to Borough of Madison, nicknamed "The Rose City". These services include patrol, investigations, traffic safety and crime prevention activities.
Our department, commanded by Police Chief John R. Miscia is staffed 24 hours a day by a staff of 30 sworn officers including one captain, two lieutenants, five sergeants, three detectives, eighteen patrolmen, four communications officers, one administration assistant, three School Resource Officers [special officers] and a parking enforcement officer. The Chief is assisted by an administrative assistant and a records clerk.
Madison is a suburban community in southeast Morris County, New Jersey, located fifteen miles due west of Times Square NYC. In 2019 New Jersey Monthly rated Madison New Jersey as the best [#1] place to live in New Jersey.
4 square miles with a population of around 20,000, Madison is favored for its location, transportation network including direct access to Manhattan via New Jersey Transit Train and many other community assets. Madison’s charming historic downtown business district has 52 buildings on the State and National Registers of historic places.
Madison is well known as a community with exceptional educational resources and is home to three universities and colleges: Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and the College of St. Elizabeth. Madison is also home to two of New Jersey’s five professional live theater companies including the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, which is one of the leading Shakespeare theaters in the nation.
