The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Hancock County by creating proactive community involved programs. We will serve the citizens of Hancock County with fairness, respect, and compassion as we pursue public safety through aggressive law enforcement, intervention, and education.

Integrity: We will strive to adhere to moral and ethical principles. We value, and are dedicated to honest, loyal, and professional behavior. We will build community trust by accepting responsibility for our actions, learning from our mistakes, and ensuring our behavior promotes credibility.

Loyalty: We are committed to achieving high quality job performance by proactively supporting the organization, its membership, and its goals. We will be held accountable for our conduct as well as the conduct of our peers and/or subordinates.

Compassion: Our role is to resolve conflict through impartial enforcement of law, not through imposition of judgment or punishment. We believe all people shall be treated equally with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Professionalism: We are committed to creating an environment that encourages teamwork, innovation, and constant evaluation of ourselves. A professional attitude is dedicated to quality, timeliness, and excellence in our service to the community.

Personal Courage: We recognize society has entrusted us with authority and expects that we have the fortitude to do what is right, even in the face of adversity. We will be courageous in carrying out our duties, not settling for anything less than our best.

Open Communication: Communication is the cornerstone of a progressive and successful organization. We encourage an open exchange of honest and constructive information within the organization and with the community.

K-9: The Hancock County Sheriff's department K-9 Unit consists of five highly trained K-9's and handlers. We have two single purpose and three dual purpose K-9's currently working. The K-9s are certified in patrol and narcotics work.

Honor Guard: The Hancock County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard was formed in 1987. The team was re-established in 2001. With the re-establishment of the Honor Guard, the Sheriff and current member of the team decided to commemorate Corporal Danny Garrison, which passed away on-duty from a heart attack on January 1, 2000, by naming the team "The Garrison Honor Guard".

Reserve Division: The Hancock County Sheriff's Department Reserve Division is comprised of volunteers willing to provide a serving to the citizens of Hancock County. These volunteers are sworn officers empowered by the Sheriff of Hancock County to help preserve law and order in the county. The Division was originally established in the 1950's under the name of the Hancock County Sheriff's Civil Defense Reserves. The Civil Defense Reserves operated under the Sheriff's authority and additionally provided basic EMT services. At this current time, the Reserve Division still operates under the Sheriff’s authority alongside those deputies in the Patrol Division, Investigation Division and Jail Division. Reserve Deputies also perform in special assignments as designated by the Sheriff, such as Hancock County Fair, Air Shows and other events.
