SALARY
$65,374 to $90,105 (Negotiable for certified police officers)
*Not including overtime or extra duty details*
*Detail rate of $70.00 per hour*
The Meredith Police Department is a full-service, 24/7 law enforcement agency providing coverage to a vibrant and ever-changing community in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. We patrol approximately 145 miles of roadway and respond to an average of 13,000 calls for service annually, ranging from routine service calls to seasonal influx-related activity.
Meredith experiences a significant population increase during the summer months, bringing a dynamic policing environment that blends small-town community engagement with the demands of a busy tourist destination. This seasonal growth provides officers with varied experiences, consistent activity, and a generous amount of overtime and detail opportunities throughout the year.

Dispatch services are handled in-house by Meredith Police Dispatch from 8:00 AM to midnight, with overnight communications (12:00 AM – 8:00 AM) supported by the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center, ensuring seamless coverage around the clock.

Minimum Requirements:
- United States citizen
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment
- Candidates may be required to complete physical agility testing, oral board interview, polygraph, medical and psychological examinations, and an extensive background investigation.
- Full-Time certified officers are encouraged to apply and may be compensated based on experience. Preference may be afforded to those candidates already certified by the State of NH or other accepted police certifications.
- Non-certified candidates with college degrees, corrections experience, or a true desire to work in law enforcement are also encouraged to apply.
Job Description/General Duties:
Performs responsible and visible law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigation, traffic control, and a variety of other duties to preserve the peace and protect life and property in the Town, and enforce Federal and State laws and local ordinances and bylaws.

Testing Requirements:
PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAM - PHYSICAL FITNESS STANDARDS
Applicant must perform at the 35th percentile for their age and sex, according to standards developed by Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s Aerobics Institute.
