The Guilford Police Department is a CALEA and State of Connecticut certified police agency that is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.
We are looking for a team oriented, community-focused, positive, and professional person to join the Guilford Police Department to help serve the Guilford Community. We are a department of 40 sworn officers that serve a beautiful shoreline community that measures over 47 square miles. Guilford has a mix of trendy downtown shops and restaurants on the historic Town Green, large shopping plazas, nearly 15 miles of coastline, over 40 operating farms, a plethora of parks and large scale community events. Guilford Police Department enjoys a very close and supportive relationship with our community both in person and through social media. We continue to seek team members who make partnering with the community their purpose and making the community a safe place their mission.
This is a full- time, 40 hour per week position that requires work on weekends, holidays, etc. and the successful applicant must be willing to work any shift.
A competitive wage and benefits package will be offered in accordance with the current 2026/2027 fiscal year Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting salary for entry level Police Officer will be $40.21 per hour ($83,636.80 annually). Top step earns $48.09 per hour ($100,027.20 annually). Beginning July 1, 2026, the Town of Guilford offers a 401(a)-retirement plan with an 8% employee contribution with a 13% town match.

All candidates will be required to successfully complete and pass the following:
- CPCA Entry Level Police Exam with a passing score of at least 70%.
- CHIP Test with a passing score of at least 40th percentile.
- Oral Board Interview with the Board of Police Commissioners
- If a conditional offer of employment is made by the Board of Police Commissioners, the candidate must pass the following to be considered for a final offer of employment:
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Medical Examination with Drug Test and Occupational Assessment
- Thorough Background Check
Applicants must complete the on-line registration/application at www.PoliceApp.com in order to take the CPCA Entry Level Police Officer Exam. The next CPCA Entry Level Police Officer Exams are being held remotely on July 12th, 2026 (register by July 9th, 2026) and July 25th, 2026 (register by July 22nd, 2026). Candidates who have taken the exam within six months of the application due date and achieved a passing score will also be considered. CHIP Testing is available on several dates during the announcement period.
