Civilian Clerk-Dispatcher

The Weston Police Department is hiring for the position of Civilian Clerk-Dispatcher. The Town of Weston is an affluent community of approximately 11,500 people that covers approximately 17 square miles, set in the MetroWest area just 15 miles outside of Boston. The Weston Police Department is a professional, MPAC Accredited Police Agency consisting of 26 full-time sworn officers. Our 24-hour dispatch center is staffed by 8 full-time civilian clerk-dispatchers who are responsible for all police, fire & EMS communications, 911 & business line call handling, CAD entry, and other administrative requirements as necessary. We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Clerk-Dispatcher. 

Salary / Benefits

Salary Range Depending on Prior Dispatch Experience: $52,992 to $59,062

Job Responsibilities

  • Dispatch Police, Fire and EMS personnel to incident locations;
  • Answer 911 calls and assess the nature, location and priority of incidents;
  • Answer police & fire business line phone calls;
  • Maintain continuous communication with police, fire & EMS responders to ensure responder and public safety;
  • Accurately enter, update and retrieve data from various public safety databases to keep and maintain appropriate logs in the department CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch);
  • Monitor multiple radio frequencies and coordinate mutual-aid when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Possess a high school diploma or certified equivalent;
  • Undergo an extensive background investigation;
  • Possess the ability to multitask and work well under pressure;
  • Possess good listening and excellent oral communication skills;
  • Possess the ability to understand & follow FCC, NCIC/CJIS & Weston Police Department rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and training requirements;
  • Must be able to work evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and overtime;
  • NG911 & APCO PST1 Certification preferred but not required;
  • A combination of education and experience are preferred but not required.
