POLICE DISPATCHER POSITION NOW OPEN!

 

The Derry Police Department is a highly respected professional law enforcement organization seeking to hire the finest and most qualified candidates available.

Mission

The mission of the Derry Police Department is to enforce the laws of society, maintain order in the community, protect life and property, and to assist the public at large in a manner consistent with the rights and dignity of all persons as provided for by law and under the Constitutions of the United States of America and the State of New Hampshire.

 

Testing Process:

The complete testing process consists of a written examination, oral board interview, one-on-one background interview, polygraph examination, background investigation, drug test examination, and an interview with the Chief of Police.

 

Scoring:

A candidate must successfully pass all phases of testing to receive appointment consideration. All phases will be on a PASS/FAIL basis; the minimum passing score for the written exam is 70%.

 

Pay Scale

AFSCME Grade F; $22.17 - $30.29 hourly 

 

Requirements

  • The Dispatcher should have a high school diploma, or equivalent, with one to two years of related experience.
  • Ability to learn the principles involved in the operation of radio, telephone, and related communications equipment.
  • Ability to assimilate a multitude of unrelated information and activities at once and identify possible emergency contingencies.
  • Ability to detect the scope and magnitude of an emergency and to think and act quickly, calmly, and accurately.
  • Ability to hear, listen and comprehend verbal communications, and to speak concisely and distinctly.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. For more information, please see the attached job description.

 

Duties

Reporting to the Shift Commander, the Dispatcher monitors radio and telephone systems to ensure the safety of police officers who are working and assigning them to calls to assist the public.

  • Answers all 911 emergency calls.
  • Dispatches officers to all requests for assistance; accurately responds to officer requests for information on citizens.
  • Responds to inquiries and questions from the public.
  • Maintains daily log of activities including towing record requests, pertinent information regarding officer activity, and other related information.
  • Provides information to local and State agencies that contact department.
