Position Summary
The Central Control Room Operator is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and efficient operation of the detention facility through monitoring and controlling movement within the jail. This includes operating doors, intercom systems, camera surveillance, and other control panels, as well as facilitating communication between officers and visitors. The position ensures accurate documentation, responds to emergencies, and maintains continuous awareness of all facility activities to support the safety of staff, inmates, and the public.
Qualifications
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid Driver License
- Must possess good communication skills
- Must have three (3) years of Corrections Officer experience
Essential Job Functions

- Monitor the movement of jail personnel, inmates, and visitors within the facility using closed-circuit television (CCTV), intercom systems, radios, and other monitoring devices.
- Operate and control electric doors, cell locks, sally port controls, and other detention equipment to manage the secure ingress and egress of personnel and visitors.
- Maintain awareness of the facility layout, including secure perimeters, control panels, and emergency and safety equipment, to ensure proper response during routine operations and emergencies.
- Facilitate communication between deputies, staff, and visitors in a professional, tactful, and firm manner.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, unusual activities, or unauthorized movements, summoning deputies, fire, or medical assistance as needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs, reports, and documentation to evaluate facility operations and inmate movements.
- Operate and utilize computer systems, including UCJIS/NCIC/FCIC and New World, to retrieve or input information as required.
- Multitask efficiently by coordinating multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, to supervisors, staff, elected officials, and the public.
- Interpret and adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal laws governing detention operations.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the detention facility.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of the facility layout, including sally port controls, cell locks, control panels, secure perimeters, and emergency and safety equipment.
- Knowledge of computer systems, including UCJIS/NCIC/FCIC and New World.
- Skill in using computers, two-way radios, intercom systems, and various detention devices.
- Skill in multitasking and coordinating multiple activities simultaneously.
- Skill in preparing accurate work reports and logs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain concentrated visual attention for extended periods.
- Ability to interpret and adhere to state, federal, and local laws related to detention operations.
- Ability to provide accurate and professional documentation of facility operations.
