FULL-TIME ACADEMY TRAINED POLICE OFFICER

The Town of Swansea is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time police officer. The individual should demonstrate good moral character and judgment, be able to handle high-pressure situations and demonstrate good problem solving and leadership skills.
Starting salary as of July 1, 2025 $81,671.00 per year, with comprehensive benefits including;
- Educational Incentive-Associates (10%), Bachelors (20%), Masters (25%) if the degree is from an approved institution according to the Massachusetts Police Career Pay Program (PCIP)

Candidates must have completed a full-time Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC), or another state-certified police academy. Out of state officers must obtain an advisory letter from the MPTC regarding whether they may qualify for an exception. The successful candidates will participate in an oral interview, medical examination, psychological examination and intensive background check.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens
- 21 years of age or older at the time of the written examination,
- Must have at least 60 college credits; or
- 2 years active military service and/or
- 4 years National Guard/Reserve Service while possessing GED or High School diploma
- Must be eligible to obtain a Class A license to carry a firearm
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must reside within fifteen (15) air miles of the Swansea Town Hall
- Be able to obtain and maintain Massachusetts POST Commission Certification

Job Description/General Duties:
A patrol officer shall be responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the department.
The duties of an officer shall consist of, but are not limited to, a number of general police responsibilities necessary to the stability and safety of the community. A patrol officer is expected to:
Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.
Reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventive patrol and other measures.
Assist individuals who are in danger of physical harm.
Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Identify problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.
Create and maintain a feeling of safety in the community.
Promote and preserve the peace.
Provide other services on an emergency basis.
Perform other duties as required by the Chief of Police.
