JOB TITLE: Correctional Deputy Probationer
AGENCY: Carroll County Sheriff’s Office – Westminster, MD
STARTING SALARY: $53,186 Annually (Grade D01A – Non-Exempt)
HIRING BONUS: $5,000 (First $2,500 paid on date of hire)
POSITION TYPE
Certified or partially certified corrections applicants with:
- Maryland (MPCTC) Corrections Certification and 1–23 months of corrections experience, OR
- Out-of-state corrections experience (1–23 months)
- Out-of-state applicants must complete a Maryland corrections academy within one year of hire.

ROLE SUMMARY
This position performs full correctional officer responsibilities under the supervision of a first-line supervisor. Deputies ensure facility safety, security, order, and inmate welfare.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise inmate activities and maintain safety and order
- Conduct housing inspections and searches for contraband
- Enforce rules and operational policies
- Complete incident and activity reports
- Participate in required training and academy (if applicable)
- Assist with intake and release processing
- Respond professionally to inmate needs
- Perform additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien
- Education: High school diploma or GED recognized by the State Board of Education that meets COMAR standards
- Experience: Minimum 1-23 months of continuous corrections experience (MD certified or out-of-state)
- License: Valid driver’s license
- Character: No criminal record or dishonorable discharge from the military; must demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and emotional stability
- Physical Condition: Must meet agency medical standards
